Non-fiction books covers and previews: Starships, Grudge, Nerd Search, and design

A new batch of covers and preview pages has been released for forthcoming Star Trek non-fiction books, spanning cat-based whimsy and a game book to starship catalogues and behind the scenes design. Continue below to check out all the latest.

First a newly announced book from Eaglemoss: Hero Collector and Penguin Random House is the latest in the Star Trek: Shipyards(ad) series, which aims to catalogue all the starships of the Star Trek universe. Star Trek: Shipyards - Alpha Quadrant and Major Races: Lysian to Zibalian(ad) will be the second of two books dedicated to the various aliens of the Alpha Quadran, following Acamarian to Ktarian(ad), and is set for release in April next year.

Here's the new cover, featuring a wide variety of alien ships spanning the franchise, and a blurb which notes a few more of the featured species and starships:

So many allies, enemies and… ships in the Alpha, Gamma and Beta Quadrants, it takes a second Star Trek Shipyards book to explore them all!

The Federation encounters countless ships in the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Quadrants, and Hero Collector 's popular line of Star Trek Shipyards books continues to beam fans right inside those spacecrafts as seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation , Star Trek: The Original Series , and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .

Each featured ship - the Romulan warbird, for example, is profiled with technical details, in-universe operational history, and illustrated with plan-view CG renders, wherever possible utilizing the original VFX models created for theStar Trek shows and features from across the franchise's remarkable 55 years.

This volume features more than 60 ships, including the Romulan warbird, the Son'a fighter, the Suliban cruiser, the Takret ship, the Tarellian Observation craft, the Tholian web spinner, V'Ger, the Xindi Aquatic ship, and the Xyrillian ship .

Also from Eaglemoss: Hero Collector is a much more whimsical book, The Book of Grudge(ad), by Robb Pearlman. This book combines photos of Grudge the cat from Discovery with cute new illustrations and observations of the universe from Grudge's point of view.

Several preview pages have now been released to give us a taste of what the book offers. This one is ready for Christmas gifting, with a November release this year.

One more from Eaglemoss: Hero Collector is the latest in their Nerd Search(ad) format, which is a nit-picking focused game book where you have to look for out of places things in detail-packed illustrations. Following the previous TOS book Quibbles with Tribbles(ad) this November brings us the TNG themed Bloopers of the Borg: The Mistakes Must Go - Make it So!(ad), as presented by Glenn Dakin.

A Borg-packed cover and a couple of preview pages have now been revealed, giving a sample of what the book offers.

Finally from Insight Editions and Weldon Owen we have a beautifully focused behind the scenes book looking at the real-world design origins of the furniture, props, and set decoration in TOS. Set for release just next month, Amazon have released some additional preview pages for Star Trek: Designing the Final Frontier - How Midcentury Modernism Shaped Our View of the Future(ad), by Dan Chavkin and Brian McGuire.

If you'd like to see a bit more, I've posted additional preview pages twice before.

Grudge’s book surprises me. It’s more of a whimsical or table book than a novel/in-universe prose fiction work than I expected.
