Discovery round-up: Terra Firma, Part 1 previews, The Sanctuary behind the scenes, alien make-up, set photos, travel poster, and more!

Lots of Discovery bits in my latest round-up, including plenty of behind the scenes goodies related to last week's The Sanctuary, as well as aliens from earlier in the series, and some great set photos. Plus another fun new travel poster, the latest Instagram log, and more! But first, the preview's for this weeks new episode, Terra Firma, Part 1. Starting with the blurb and trailer (which is also up on StarTrek.com if you prefer):

The U.S.S. Discovery crew journey to a mysterious planet in hopes of finding a cure for Georgiou’s deteriorating condition. Stamets and Adira make a stunning breakthrough with the newly acquired Burn data.

Pre-release preview images from this episode are in two groups. This first batch focused on Georgiou (and also featuring the new 32nd century phasers):

And another group focused on Adira and The Burn data:

As ever there was also a clip for the new episode at the end of last week's episode of The Ready Room, and a very intriguing clip at that, featuring 24th century Starfleet uniform and a reference to the Kelvin timeline! The episode is otherwise devoted to an interview with Blu del Barrio (Adira) and Ian Alexander (Grey), plus a featurette on The Sanctuary, focusing mainly on the Orion leader, Osyraa. You can also watch on StarTrek.com, YouTube, or Facebook, if you prefer to Instagram below:
CBS have once again released a generous selection of behind the scenes photos from the episode. This first batch focuses on Sonequa Martin-Green and David Ajala on location. I especially like the first shot here, where Ajala is doubling up as camera-operator!

And another bunch give a lot of love to Jonathan Frakes, back as director for this episode:

Orion actor Ian Lake also shared a moment with Frakes, as well as celebrating his time shared earlier in the season with Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Yeoh:

Lake also shared a video of him going green:

Another alien actor, stunt-person Bjarki Thor Palsson, also shared some photos of his time filming the first episode of the season, giving a nice look at one of the new alien designs:

But the most fun photos come once again from Noah Averbach-Katz, who shared these fun photos of test designs for different hairstyles for Ryn the Andorian:

He also shared a bunch of photos of him and Mary Wiseman (who are married) messing about on set!

One more really cool look behind the scenes comes from the German Star Trek website, which recently published an interview with visual effects supervisor Ante Dekovic, and producer/director Olatunde Osunsanmi. They talk, among other things, about shooting in Iceland, the challenges and upsides of lockdown post-production, and building the new far future world of season 3 - They also strongly hint the end of the season is going to be pretty spectacular and surprising. But as interesting as all that is, the coolest bit is that it's illustrated with great behind the scenes photos, including lovely set photos like these (which are but a small sample of what you'll find if you check out the original article):

Looking back to last week's The Sanctuary: Here's the latest of CBS social media travel posters which have been accompanying the season, this time of course for Kwejian. Looks like the Kwejian tourism ministry are trying to make the most of the sea locust invasion, and marketing the unusual animals as a tourist attraction!

There's also the latest in the Instagram Logs, which this weeks brings us some thoughts from Stamets on his new role as surrogate father to Adira:
And finally, here's the usual assortment of post-release additional images and clips from last week's episode:

Alongside with previous seasons, the series can be found on CBS All Access(ad) in the US, and Bell Media services in Canada, and Netflix in almost all of the rest of the world (barring a few countries where Netflix doesn't work).
