The Wand Company tease "fully-functional" tricorder replica

The Wand Company, who have previously brought us the phaser remote control, and communicator bluetooth handset, are back, and ready to complete their TOS landing party kit with a "fully-functional" tricorder!

The Wand Company's approach to these products is not just to make a device that looks a bit like a Star Trek prop, with a practical function, but to really go to town to make a perfect replica of the screen used device, hiding inside it whatever function they have decided to give it.

The tricorder isn't due for release until summer next year, but they're excited to show it off, and so released this teaser video:

They're not taking pre-orders yet, but have got a registration page up to log interest, and that gives some more details in a Q and A. They are a little coy about exactly what the tricorder is as a gadget, but this is how they summarise it's functions so far:
Measure the environment, scan radio frequencies, record audio, impress all your friends, enjoy seeing your dearest Star Trek wish come true and love the fact that you own perhaps the most sophisticated prop replica ever designed and manufactured.
Our Tricorder is designed to work just like the fantasy version imagineered by The Original Series script writers in the 1960s, with more than a little help from some 21st century technology. A full-colour LCD displays information stored in the Tricorder along with dynamic data gathered by its sensors and audio recording function. More details of the functionality will be revealed later this year
They also talked a little about it's credentials as a prop replica:
The Tricorder Replica has been developed after years of extensive research, and meticulously designed using 3D scans of the last-remaining screen-used hero prop. Carefully chosen materials and manufacturing processes, accurately matching the prop and its original design intent, ensure that it will be the perfect companion to our highly accurate Star Trek Phaser and Bluetooth® Communicator prop replicas, at last completing the Landing Party set.
