Due out in September from Titan Books is The Art of Star Trek Discovery, written by Paula Block and Terry Erdmann. Here's a reminder of the blurb:
The official Star Trek: Discovery art book.Several preview pages have now been released, giving us a good idea of how the book will present its art collection:
Star Trek: Discovery, the newest chapter in the Star Trek Universe, follows the exploits of Vulcan-raised science officer Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery as they boldly go where no one has gone before.
The Art of Star Trek Discovery explores behind the scenes of CBS's hit show, with cast and crew interviews, set photography, concept art and storyboards. With exclusive content from the first two seasons, this book is a must-have for every Star Trek fan.
In November, Adams Media will be bringing us The Wisdom of Picard, as compiled by Chip Carter. Here's the new cover for that book, which naturally features Picard:
Discover all of Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s sage advice, insight, and wisdom from the deck of the USS Enterprise and beyond in this ultimate collection of wise words from the esteemed Starfleet captain.
Any Star Trek fan knows that Captain Jean-Luc Picard is renowned for his impressive oratory skills, preferring negotiation and diplomacy over violence and destruction. Now, you can finally ponder all of his wisdom in one place—from his thoughts on leadership and sense of duty to justice and the limitlessness of exploration—in Star Trek: The Wisdom of Picard.
Journey with the Starfleet captain through his seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation to the Star Trek movies to the current series Star Trek: Picard. Star Trek: The Wisdom of Picard boldly goes where no book has gone before to log Picard’s timeless advice in one impressive collection, perfect for Star Trek fans everywhere! Make it so!
Coming now in October, Titan Books' The Autobiography of Kathryn Janeway has been delayed a little; initially it was due out in July, and was already moved to September. Let's hope it sticks to the new October slot! A paperback edition has also now be scheduled, for release in March 2021.
The book is written by Una McCormack, and it now looks like she'll be returning for another autobiography, with her name now on the cover of next year's The Autobiography of Mr Spock. This is a book even more delayed; it was originally to be authored by David Goodman, who wrote the Kirk and Picard entries in this series. Spock was announced for 2018, and has been pushed back a couple of times before. I guess Goodman, a busy TV writer, finally accepted he wasn't going to find time for it, so it would seem the baton has been passed. Currently the Spock book is scheduled for September 2021.
Finally, a little calendar update. The 2021 Ships of the Line calendar has just recently become available, and a couple of extra preview pages have been released (see preview report for others). These should both please starship and tech fans, as the new previews gives us the deck plans of the NX-01 refit (February's spread), and the awesome Romulan Bird of Prey cutaway centerfold:
The illustrator of the cutaway, Matthew Cushman - Who has also produced several other Star Trek cutaways, including this year's Ships of the Line, and earlier stand-alone posters - Has shared some of his research documents on his Facebook page. He notes an interesting historical find from his exploration of the ship:
The biggest surprise was to discover that this Bird-of-Prey was painted at least twice. Because Chang was not in the Union, the Studio was ultimately responsible for painting the final look. Model Maker, Greg Jein, had heard of this model having been painted blue, so I created an addition top plan view showing the alternate paint job in blue. Perhaps it was the use of blue screens that squashed this paint scheme, electing instead for non-conflicting colors.
