Picard behind the scenes: TNG cast reunion, Borg sets, Mr Vup, and so many Romulans

Looking for the latest behind the scenes photos, videos and insights from the cast and crew of Star Trek Picard? Then continue below for a round-up of the latest make-up, costume, sets, and props, and sweet moments on set:

And they don't come much sweeter than five of the TNG main cast reunited. Isa Briones (Soji/Dahj) shared this set of photos on Instagram, capturing the moment Michael Dorn and LaVar Burton visited the location shoot where Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis were bring Riker and Troi back to life alongside Patrick Stewart's Picard in the latest episode, Nepenthe.

Briones was clearly as excited as any of us would be:
Probably one of the most surreal days of my life. One of those moments when you look around and go “how is this my life?” (in the good way). I truly am the luckiest girl in the world to be a part of this legacy and this family.

Showrunner and writer Michael Chabon shared another moment from the same location:

Riker mentions the Kzinti in Nepenthe, and Michael Chabon also gave some insight into that reference in one of his recent Instagram Q-and-A replies:

Here's a Trek-mums moment care of Sumalee Montano (Soji/Dahj's mum), who bumped into Marina Sirtis at some point:

From the shoot at Vasquez Rocks Elle Gannon (who I think is part of the crew, and the person holding the umbrella), shared this photo with Michelle Hurd, Patrick Stewart and Michael Chabon (among others):

Jonathan Frakes shared this photo of Isa Briones, Jonathan Del Arco, Patrick Stewart, and Michael Chabon on Borg Cube set.

While Hugh himself, Jonathan Del Arco shared this clearly joyful moment between himself and Patrick Stewart.

Del Arco also shared this sweet insight into Hugh's hug with Picard:
While Michael Chabon in another Q-and-A answer had some thoughts on Hugh's death:

Here are some photos of the glorious Borg Cube set, thanks to visual effects artist Charles Collyer:

There's a lot of boxes in this one, under one of the bridges; presumably to catch anyone falling!

There's lots of Romulans walking round the Cube afetrall, including of course Doctor Ramdha, played by Rebecca Wisocky. Make-up artist Richard Redlefsen shared these photos, giving us a good look at her X-B look:

Introducing any visitors to The Artifact was a Romulan played by Marti Matulis. Character concept artist Neville Page shared this striking photo of his final makeup:

While sculptor Daniele Tirinnanzi shared these photos of his working bringing that character to life:

Another member of the Romulan crew on the Cube was played by Michael Chabon's son, Zeke Chabon, who shared these photos:

And another Romulan crew-person is played by Brian DeRozan, who shared this photo showing off his costume:

Not all Romulans are serious black-clad guards though. Some of them are warrior monks! Amirah Vann shared these photos of herself in costume as the delightful Zani:

And costume concept artist Greg Hopwood shared his concept art for Elnor's Vashti outfit:

Michael Chabon had another interesting Q-and-A thought about Elnor:

This would seem to confirm what someone worked out on Twitter a few days ago, that Elnor roughly translates from Elvish (the language of the Elves in Lord of the Rings) él (star) nor- (to run/leap), or if you squint, "star trek". Cute!

Here's a closer look at a couple more Romulans. Forehead and ears photographed by makeup artist/sculptor Wayne Anderson:

And more foreheads by Daniele Tirinnanzi:

Moving on to other aliens. The makeup department seem particularly fond of their new creation, Mr Vup, the Beta Annari. Vincent Van Dyke, who worked on painting this character, shared these photos:

Anthony E. Matijevich, who worked on foam patching the applications, shared these photos of the paint master from Van Dyke, and all the cowls he would then be working on:

And a step back from there, sculptor Wayne Anderson shared the following video and photos of his work preparing the character:

Anderson also worked on Mr Vup's hands. Noting:
I sculpted these at @vincentvandykefx , there wasn't a design for them so I whipped something up that matched the makeup @nevillepage designed. Art directed by Vincent.

Another impressive prosthetic was seen on the Tellarite seen in the first episode of the series. Actor Douglas Tait shared this photo of him in character:

A more subtle look was seen on Caler, Dahj's boyfriend, played by David Carzell. Hair stylist Maria Sandoval shared these photos highlighting her work, as well as the make-up and contact lenses:

An unsung alien design from the series was highlighted by writer Nick Zayas. Behold Squoodgy:

Finally here's visual effects artist Charles Collyer having some fun on the La Sirena bridge:
