But first, lets check out some new still's from this week's third episode in the second season, Point of Light. This episode brings us the return of both the Klingons and Emperor come Section 31 agent Georgiou. While the Discovery itself also welcomes a familiar face, Amanda Grayson:
CBS have released another behind the scenes featurette, this time focusing on Jeff Russo's music for the season (alas international viewers, it is as ever geolocked):
And we've also gots lots of fun bits and bobs from the show's creators. My favourite comes from Walter Klassen FX, who shared great photos of their 3D printed visor-like costume piece seen in the episode Brother.
Also looking at costume, designer Gersha Phillips has shared a whole load of images on Instagram of her and her team's work on the costumes for the Short Treks episode The Brightest Star, and season one mirror universe designs:
And coming right up to date, here's Phillips going over the landing party costumes from New Eden, in a video tweeted by Discovery producer Olatunde Osunsanmi:
Every dir goes through a pre-costume meet w @gershaphillips where she shows rough ideas, which she fleshes out to awesomeness by the time we shoot, with the help of a MASSIVE costume Dept. Osunsanmi shared lots of photos from this episode too, includes Jonathan Frakes in the captain's chair:
Checking out Pike's new ready room:
In the church basement set (built from scratch, not a location):
And out on location too:
Anson Mount also shared a photo from the church location, of him with the rest of the landing party, and a visitor from the 24th century:
Mount was also good enough to share a close look at his wound!
In other Trek TV updates: Patrick Stewart recently talked to Yahoo about the upcoming Picard show, giving a cryptic hint about the topical nature of at least some of the story/setting:
...it references the present day, at times, and that's all I can say. I'm not saying we're in the present day, we're not, but the world we find Jean-Luc Picard in is not quite the world that we left him in.He also hinted at a structure for the series being very episodic, and that there's already hope for being more than a one off run:
They are writing a 10-hour movie
We’re hoping for more than one seasonAnd he spoke a little about his involvement in the writer's room:
I've been in the writers room for a total of three weeks over the last couple of months. The work that's being done is extraordinary — basically, I just sit and listen. These clever guys, ideas going backwards and forwards; what if what if what if, nah nah that won't work, what if, what if. And what we have coming up is exciting, it's exciting for me because it's excites me as an actor.
Meanwhile at the Television Critics Association Winter event a Star Trek panel included Alex Kurtzman who made it clear they're already full of ideas for Discovery season three (still awaiting the green light), and revealed the directors for the two forthcoming Short Treks animated episodes - Those will be one of our photographers above, Discovery producer/director Olatunde Osunsanmi, and quite surprisingly Michael Giacchino, who is more often found composing soundtracks, including of course for all the Kelvin timeline movies!
Finally for today, also at the TCA event was this rather strange customer built USS Discovery car (or trike I guess?). A very curious combination, but the Disco bits are very nicely built! You can see more photos of it on Twitter, including some build photos.
