Entertainment Weekly's Discovery cover shoot

This week's issue of Entertainment Weekly is making a splash about Star Trek: Discovery, including three different Discovery covers, for which they had their own shoot on the sets of the USS Discovery. Continue below to check out the cast in action, including our first look at the Discovery transporter room! Which, we can see in one of the extra images Entertainment Weekly have released:

Entertainment Weekly have also released a video featuring the shoot, and general chatter about the series, including lots more looks of those newly revealed sets.

And here are the actual covers:

They have also released a separate video about diversity on the show, namely having a black female lead, and a major gay character.

In an accompanying article it notes, rather curiously, that "Stamets’ mushroom research will be key to Starfleet’s conflict with the Klingons". Showrunner Aaron Harberts, also outlined his character in relation presentation of his sexuality:
We’re at a point in time where people aren’t defined by their sexuality. What’s fascinating about the character is that when we meet him we don’t know who or what he is. He’s so super specific, he’s persnickety and difficult and brilliant, and he isn’t going to give an inch and he has very strong feelings about why he’s on the Discovery. We wanted to roll out that character’s sexuality the way people would roll out their sexuality in life.
UPDATE: In another article a short video discusses the Klingons, noting what elaborate make-up they have to deal with.

UPDATE 2: And now the issue is out, TrekMovie have reported on a few new details from the production, including confirming the series was initially proposed as an anthology by Bryan Fuller, with future seasons to reset to other parts of the Trek-verse - CBS didn't go for this however. Also lost from the original Fuller proposals were more TOS-esque uniforms.

Star Trek: Discovery is due to start this September, and it will be distributed almost everywhere in the world on Netflix, except for the US where is will be available on CBS All Access, and Canada where it will be on Bell Media channels and services.
