Out this week is the penultimate issue of IDW's Kelvin timeline ongoing comic series, and the first half of the two part story, Connection (renamed since being solicited as Altered Encounters). The pleasingly formatted book highlights the similarities and differences of the nuTrek and TOS worlds, in a story that draws both realities together. Continue below for a five page preview, after checking out all the covers.
The book, written as ever by Mike Johnson, and with art by Tony Shasteen, is available in four different covers. The main cover, featuring the TOS crew and their Enterprise, is by Tony Shasteen, and forms a diptych with the parallel version of the same image on the cover of the next issue. The subscription cover, by Josh Adams with color by Adam Guzowski shows the Kelvin timeline crew looking adventurous. A third cover is part of IDW's themed variant of the month, a crossover with ROM the Space Knight (who appears across numerous IDW titles' covers this month). The final cover, again featuring TOS characters, is also be Tony Shasteen, and is exclusive to the Supply Pod subscription box.
You can continue reading this story by picking up a copy at your local comic book shop, or from online retails like these: Amazon.com, Things From Another World, Forbidden Planet, iTunes.
Meanwhile there are lots of nuTrek omnibus books out recently. Volume 12 of the ongoing series contains the recent mirror universe and Orion story lines. That is joined by the Klingon focused Manifest Destiny, and Countdown Collection One (the prequel series for the first nuTrek movie), and Countdown Collection Two (the Into Darkness prequels).
Still to come is Volume 13, the final omnibus of the Kelvin timeline ongoing series, which will contain the Connection story in full, and the preceding (and excellent) Legacy of Spock story. Amazon currently have this down for a November release.

Penultimate? Final?
Sorry for asking the obvious question, but is IDW ending the Star Trek Kelvin Timeline series?
Afraid so, second part of this series is the final issue. I assume they will do more nuTrek, but depending how Star Trek Beyond ends they might not be able to just continue the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Nothing announced so far (no nuTrek in August), hopefully the September solicitations in a few days should give us something (at the very least a Jaylah prequel series or something would be nice!).
