Like the phaser, this new communicator has been made using 3D scans of one of the original props, so as well as being a functional device, it is also probably the best reproduction of that prop ever offered. It is made from "pressed metal, die cast metal, machined aluminum and textured ABS to replicate the original hero prop", and also features a range of Star Trek sound effects and audio clips.
It comes complete in a transit case, and comes with a magnetic stand, which also functions as a wireless recharging port.
The communicator is due out in January, and is available for pre-order in the US from ThinkGeek and StarTrek.com, and in the UK from Firebox. Continue after the jump for more images.
The final image is the original prop being scanned:
Now one wonders, what functionality could they bring to a tricorder??

Growing up a trek fan in the late 80's and early 90's is really starting to pay off. I love the breadth and range of collectibles that are being offered today. If QMX would make some affordable ship replicas I would die a happy Trek fan.
