Books
Dave Galanter returns to the TOS TV era, for his new novel Crisis of Consciousness:
The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise is completing a diplomatic mission with the Maabas, an alien race with whom they’d been sent to sign a treaty. The Maabas are a peaceful people who are not native to the star system they now inhabit, but were refugees from a great war long ago. Several hundred thousand took shelter on their new planet, and have been there for thousands of years. While they have warp capability, they do not travel the stars, but seek to explore within. The Federation’s interest is in the Maabas’s great intellectual resources. Their science, while behind Federation standards in some areas, excels in others. They are highly intelligent, with unique approaches, and their philosophy is in line with that of the Federation. But just as the pact is signed, the Enterprise is attacked by an unknown ship. They manage to show enough force to keep the alien vessel at bay…but a new danger arises, as their mysterious foes are the Kenisians—a race that used to inhabit this planet thousands of years ago, and now want it back.

The crew of the Enterprise also return for another adventure in John Byrne's New Visions photo-comic series. Resistance, the sixth issue in the series, sees the Kirk and crew meeting a familiar (to us at least) foe, while working on the edge of the Delta Quadrant. The most minimalist blurb in the history of Star Trek gives a slight hint:
One word: Borg!
Purchase: Amazon.com, Things From Another World, Forbidden Planet, iTunes.
You can read a few preview pages from Resistance in my earlier report. Meanwhile the other timeline's Kirk and co are also in the Delta Quadrant! Issue forty-five in the nuTrek ongoing series is the final chapter in the three-part Eurydice story. See how that issue begins in another earlier report.
“Eurydice, Part 3 of 3.” Trapped deep in the Delta Quadrant, Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise fight for their lives to escape the clutches of the Dark Market syndicate! Don't miss this all-new adventure produced in association with STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci!
Purchase: Amazon.com, Things From Another World, Forbidden Planet, iTunes.
Model ships
It's been an Enterprise month from Eaglemoss, with issue forty-six of The Official Starships Collection giving us the Ambassador class USS Enterprise-C. This was followed by the Klingon Negh'var in issue forty-seven. As ever these came to the UK first, and will be making their way to other parts of the world as the collection progresses in different markets.
Purchase: Things From Another World, Entertainment Earth, Forbidden Planet.
For extensive coverage of the entire Starships Collection, including links to all my previous coverage of all the issues, see my index page.
Also out this month is wave fifteen of Wizkid's Attack Wing gaming miniatures. The three ships in this assortment are the USS Prometheus, the Bajoran ship Ratosha, and the Klingon Bird of Prey IKS Ning'tao.
From Round 2 Models there's a reissue of the USS Enterprise cutaway model kit, last seen two decades ago! It now comes in a snazzy new box, and has a new stand and decals.
If you like the idea of peeking inside the ship, check out my previous "Slicing up the Enterprise"article, for a look at all the different cross-sections of the ship we've been offered over the years.
And there's one more Enterprise this month, Bif Bang Pow' little wobbling Monitor Mate Enterprise-D.
Blurays
There are a couple of new-ish bluray releases. In the UK you can get Enterprise: The Full Journey, a boxset of all four seasons. At present this is the only full series boxset, and as it's region free it's good wherever you are; if you can get hold of it.
Purchase: Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.ca, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.es, Amazon.it.
Meanwhile in North America there's a steelbook release of The Wrath of Khan, exclusive to Best Buy.
Curiosities
And then, there are gnomes... Four of them are available exclusively from ThinkGeek.
Big Mouth, the company that makes the gnomes, have also recently released drink "koolers" and an inflatable captain's chair poll float:
Meanwhile QMx have released their latest tribble, they're calling this new grey variety "platinum".
And speaking of precious metals... Perth Mint have released their second set of silver Star Trek coins, this TNG themed pair features Captain Picard and the USS Enterprise-D.
German Language
Finally it's a bumper month of new releases from German publisher Cross Cult. In prose they have another Dave Galanter story, his 2001 COE ebook novella Ambush, co-written with Greg Brodeur. The German edition is known as Der Hinterhalt. This comes out alongside the latest German book in Peter David's New Frontier series, Stein und Amboss, or Stone and Anvil, from 2003.
There's also a new comic book translation, Die Neue Zeit VI: Der Khitomer-Konflikt, which despite the name, is in fact the equivalent of IDW's nuTrek ongoing Volume Seven. This is because Cross Cult published Volume Six, After Darkness, as a standalone book, simultaneously with the US release, to capitalise on the story's post-Into Darkness tie-in shortly after the release of the film. Now they have caught up and passed that point in the series, the volume numbers will be out of sync going forward.
Finally there are two more releases from Cross Cult: At the recent FedCon convention they released posters using some of their original book-cover artwork, the diptych covers from their edition of Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars duology, plus the artwork for McCormack's book in The Fall. If they had any left over they planned to sell them online in a week or so.
You can find out more about all these items, and everything else out this year, with links to all my previous coverage on my schedule page.
