QMx have released a couple of images of their forthcoming USS Kelvin model,
the latest starship in their high end studio model style replica range. UPDATE: In fact this will not be part of the studio replica line, but a "collector scale model", comparable to
their model of the Serenity, or
Death Glider and
F-302 from
Stargate. Those are all around a hundred dollars, rather than the several thousand of the high end replicas! Check out the prototype of their version of this fine starship:
Elsewhere in the QMx spectrum of
Trek goodies, here's their latest
Trekkies comic strip (posted on the
QMx Twitter), in which Captain Kirk wears himself out:
I absolutely love the design of the Kelvin. In-fact it's my favorite starship design, and I would love to own every version of it available (including the Burger King toy, which I finally got a couple of weeks ago). That said, there is absolutely no way I'll ever own this...and I'm ok with that. Might seem childish, but I don't count this when it comes to releases of the Kelvin's design...
ReplyDeleteOh I quite agree, there's no point lamenting the unobtainability of these things. But they're cool to admire from afar :)
ReplyDeleteHi guys - this is Andy from QMx. Just wanted to make sure you know the Kelvin is part of our collector scale line, not the Artisan Studio models we make in the States. The cost should be much more affordable and in line with our other collector scale models, like the little Serenity we introduced last year.

ReplyDeleteOh thanks Andy, got that a bit wrong then. That's great news! Will update right away!
ReplyDeleteDidn't know QMx made models. Around a hundred bucks is definitely a lot more affordable. Can't say that I'll get it. Really depends on how I am financially when this is released. It would be nice to have a nice larger scaled representation of the Kelvin. Otherwise the largest one I'll have will be the Hot Wheels version. Playmates never did one when they had the licensing, Hasbro's just doing Kre-O and Fighter Pods, and as far as I know Diamond Select doesn't seem to have any intention of acquiring the necessary licensing to do any nuTrek products.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming from what I've read of the others that these aren't the put-them-together-yourself kind of "model", but more like the ships Diamond Select produces.
Hi Jim - definitely not a build-it-yourself. That paint job is *very* complicated! It will most likely be cast in solid polystone and then painted by hand. And it will come on a beautiful glossy black stand :-)
