New-movie USS Enterprise model kit coming from Revell

The German arm of the model kit makers Revell have today announced a wide range of new model kits coming out in the first half of this year, including one new Star Trek kit; the new movieverse USS Enterprise. They are planning to release it at 1:500 scale in May, alongside the release of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Revell in Germany have previously released three Voyager kits (USS Voyager, Maquis raider, and Kazon fighter), which they re-released in 2009 to capitalise on the Trek hype around the last film. Those apparently did well enough to prompt Revell to expand their range with two new kits, a TOS USS Enterprise and Klingon D7, which came out about a year ago.

The cancelled Polar Lights nuEnterprise kit
All of these sets are not widely distributed outside of Germany, so if you want a new-Enterprise kit in other parts of the world you might have to put some effort into your shopping. I would imagine this is because Round 2 Models are busy producing model kits for the US market, so the licenses probably don't allow foreign distribution. Round 2 did of course announce their own version of the new-Enterprise, shortly after the first film was released, but unfortunately cancelled work on it some time later. They did release some attractive box art at least.

Hmmm???? I think you might to grab a calculator. At 1/500 scale the model
would be 5.4 feet based on the Enterprise being 2700 ft long if they are going by what Abrams put in the blu-ray supplemental material. Now if
if they meant 1/1500 scale it would be 21.6 inches sounds very reasonable. OR if it 1/500 based on the origianal scale with the newest Enterprise being 1200 ft then it would 28.8 inches still unusually large for say a 30 to 50 dollar kit. Oh well just wondering and rqanting. Can's wait to buy it especially if that is a picture of the actual cause do be looks GREAT!!! Tony K.

Well 1:500 is what Revell say they're doing. Time will tell. Pretty sure the image is the movie's CGI model. Though I'm sure the real kit will still look nice :)

The newest box images say that the kit is 588mm's in length which would put the model at just a bit over 23 inches long. That is still a really good size model kit. That would make it much larger than the 2009 Playmates toy or the Diamond Select ships out on the market.
What bums me out though is that you'll need to paint and glue this then decal. I've never been good at that.

From the photo shown, it looks as if the primary 'saucer-section' hull is as badly out of alignment with the nacelles and secondary hull as the 'Playmates' toy. The ship looks broken. I don't think it's a perspective issue - let's hope it's a build fault. If not it's either a radical re-modelling job (and who's got the time for that these days?) or accept yet another commercial botch-up of an already botched icon. So sad to see an opportunity to achieve something lasting and wonderful missed.
