USS Titan orthographic views

Sean Tourangeau, the designer of the USS Titan, has posted on his Facebook page, orthographic views of the CGI mesh model of the ship by Ellery Connell. These were apparently used to build the real world model of the Titan for Star Trek: The Tour (photos of which you can see in a post from all the way back in 2008!).

Now can someone explain to me why this still has never been in a Ships of the Line calendar!?

UPDATE: Looks like the Titan model has resurfaced as part of Star Trek: The Exhibition. As far as I can tell it wasn't in show until the Exhibition set up in the Kennedy Space Center last summer though. Anyone seen her anywhere else? (Picture from Flickr):

  1. What is Star Trek the Tour?? Is that the thing going around the country? I thought that was Star Trek the Exhibition. I've been to Star Trek the Experience in Vegas before it closed. I don't remember Star Trek the Tour.

  2. I think Star Trek The Tour was pretty much the Exhibition, maybe a bit smaller. Don't know really know much more than it featured the Titan though.

There have been various Star Trek exhibitions over the years, cycling through many of the same props, costumes, and models, and gradually updating the displays. I've been to a couple in the UK. A friend of mine went to one in Spain last year.

  3. Hmmm...we were thinking of heading to the Exhibition in Saint Louis this weekend, I wonder if it'll have the Titan there.

  4. I've not really been following the Exhibition, as it's in the wrong part of the world for me. But I've not heard anything about the Titan model since "The Tour", which I think the Exhibition effectively replaced.

  5. Yeah, Titan should totally be in Ships of the Line. What is it, some kind of rights issue?

  6. Someone should do a Titan/Aventine/Enterprise-E in the Azure Nebula pic.

  7. CBS own every design created for Star Trek, and Ships of the Line has used designs from every tv series and non-canon before, so I don't think there's any reason why it cant be there on a technicality.

I'd like to see the close of Destiny illustrated, Titan, Aventine, Enterprise-E, and the Caeliar city, surrounded by the Borg fleet. Epic.

  8. They should also do a big picture of the Full Circle Fleet, Aventine, TItan, an Enterprise-E for a whole expanded novel universe omnibus or something.

  9. I was hoping such an image might grace the cover of the new Destiny omnibus. But no luck they're just reusing Mere Mortals.

I think we have a better chance of getting a full circle image. Mark Rademaker has had an image in Ships of the Line several years in a row, and is designing the entire fleet. Plus the Voyager relaunch novels have all had ship covers so far, so maybe we'll even get a fleet cover at some point.

  10. Hey all I don't know if the Titan has moved on from the Kennedy Space Center, but Alec Peters is supposed to get me some photos of her as she was displayed.

you can all find more Titan artwork on my deviantart gallery at http://stourangeau.deviantart.com or I post on my blog at http://seantourangeau.blogspot.com/

Feel free to follow me on both sites. I am also on Twitter @SeanTourangeau and I will answer what questions you may have for me.

  11. Thanks, Sean, I'll totally check those out. I have always liked your design and I liked the editorial decisions that led to it. Titan is an explorer, not a warship (as cool as warships can be), one of the aspects of Trek that I've always loved is the idea of sending our very best out there to places where we've never been before and to go out there to learn what we can and make new friends as we learn more about ourselves. It's pretty corny, but hey, this is fiction! Titan has always looked like she belongs out there, going where no one has gone before, and to have that tradition continue is my favorite part of Star Trek.
