More Ships of the Line images

Doug Drexler has on his blog, the Drex Files (a very enjoyable blog to keep an eye on), revealed more images from next year's Ships of the Line calendar, which looks like one of the best editions of the calendar, well, ever! Especially loving these first two:

"We Come in peace For All Mankind", by Robert Wilde "Refit at Station: Gray", (painting) by Andrew Probert "Operation Return", by Gregory Stewart"No Bloody A, B, C, or D", by Doug Drexler"Flight Deck" (TOS remastered) by Max Gabl and Neil Wray

8472 online!

1up.com have posted an interview with Star Trek Online's executive producer Craig Zinkievich. They talk about a few features of the game; a bit about how tactical the starship combat will be; the possibility of becoming an admiral; and a hint at the games story opening with the Klingon conflict the Path to 2409 timeline has been building up to.

But far more exciting than all that talking around the subject, new pictures! Including an armoured Species 8472 under attack by Cardassians!
There's also what looks a lot like a Reman fighting alongside a Klingon.
And a good old Galor class flying about in the badlands.

AVENTINE! (and some other calendar stuff...)

At long last the time has come, the Aventine has been revealed in TrekMovie's preview of next year's Ships of the Line calendar. Here she is:

And a video too!

In the rest of calendar news, TrekMovie has unveiled the cover for the new movie calendar, and the contents: A page for each of the main characters (Kirk, Spock, Spock "prime", Pike, Nero, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, plus a page of Kirk & Spock together, and one of the new USS Enterprise.

They also describe a new replacement for the stardate calendar, a digital download calendar, details forthcoming.

And then there's the rest of the Ships of the Line preview, pretties:

Flint's castle from TOS remastered
The Enterprise in the Remmler Array
A holey Enterprise-A from The Undiscovered Country

DST update: Kang, mirrors, but no Borg!

TrekMovie have posted some news on DST's range. There is to be a new TOS Klingon figure exclusive to Toys'r'us, Kang:

Toys'r'us will also be re-releasing the mirror universe Kirk and Spock figures. But in bad news the wave of Borg figures have been cancelled!

See the rest, here.

Star Trek Online: 2389

The Star Trek Online website has been updated with another of their Path to 2409 timeline entries. In 2389 highlights include:

The Romulan star Empire continues to struggle as various colonies and individuals makes claims for power, the seat of the empire, and praetorship. The Federation continues to supple aid and attempts to help mediate the competitors to establish a stable government, but not even a location for talks can be decided on. Meanwhile the Klingons take advantage of the instability of Romulan space and start strikes at Romulan worlds along the Klingon boarder - until Starfleet sends a fleet to defend Romulan space, leading skirmishes between the Federation and Klingon forces.

On another front the Klingons hold their ground in the Gorn war, even in the face of Gorn forces bolstered by an alliance with the Nausicaans.

On Cardassian a party with Elim Garak in the leadership narrowly wins elections and re-forms the Detapa Council. The newly elected government soon face criticism when they contribute vessels to the Romulan aid missions, which most Cardassians see as a waste of their resources.

In the Federation the Federation Council announces its findings on the Hobus supernova and the Vulcan Science Academy's research into red matter. The council concludes the Vulcans may not have realised how major event the Hobus supernova was, but criticises them for creating red matter without wider consultation.

In the legal world a judge rules that the The Doctor and the Soong Foundation may expand their lawsuit to class action suit arguing for the rights of all artificial lifeforms. Though Alyssa Cogley-Shaw, a Soong Foundation lawyer realises it could take years for such a suit to be settled.

More Nero

TrekMovie have also posted a preview article for Nero, with four more pages to enjoy looking, like these two:

UPDATE: You can also see these same pages before they coloured on David Messina's blog.

Wednesday, 17 June 2009

The blurb for the next DS9 relaunch novel, The Soul Key, has been posted on Simon and Schuster's website, this is it:

There is a void in the alternate universe that demands to be filled. Iliana Ghemor, the Cardassian operative who years ago was altered in both body and mind to replace Kira Nerys, dreams of fulfilling a prophecy that will mark her as the one true Emissary of that other reality -- a messianic figure who could lead her followers into an era of renewed hope...or an age of deepening darkness.

Ghemor's claim to the mantle of the Emissary is by no means certain, however, as the inexorable pull of providence tugs also at other souls who are swept into the vortex of the Prophets, the remote and timeless beings who have set these strange events in motion.

But the stakes are higher than anyone imagines: for the outcome of this struggle for the fate of one universe will ripple across many others, and become the key to unlocking a future that will prove to be the greatest trial yet for the heroes of station Deep Space 9.

Nero details and preview

Comic Book Resources have posted an interview with Mike Johnson and Tim Jones (the writers of Countdown) on their forthcoming series Nero. As widely anticipated the interview confirms the series will deal with Nero's lost years in the new movie; based on scenes cut from the movie itself, the comic will include: "Robau, prison, ear damage, green blood, the Narada, explosions, astrophysics, red matter, 47 Klingon ships. And more."

The interview also reveals Spock (prime) will be a major character in the series, as will Ayel. They also list characters named Quocch and Clavell as well as "an entity whose name escapes me at the moment" and a cameo from The Motion Picture.

The article includes three pages from the first issue, here's one of them:

See the original article for the other preview pages and the full interview.

Lots of Spock's Reflections

On his blog, Chris Ryall has released all the covers for the Spock: Reflections series, which includes three new ones, for the final two issues:

And the eventual omnibus book:

New Polar Lights and AMT releases

TrekMovie have announced Polar Lights will be releasing (late next year) a 1:2500 scale snap-together model kit of the new movie Enterprise. Which has a box that looks like this:

TrekMovie also have a run down of other coming model kits from AMT and Polar Lights, newly announced kits include a re-issue of the Vulcan shuttle from The Motion Picture (with some new detailing):

And a new 1:1000 scale Enterprise-A model will be coming out at the end of the year:

For 2011 they plan a 1:350 scale version of the TV era TOS Enterprise (previously announced for 2010). Disappointingly there seems to be no mention on TrekMovie or Round 2's website of the previously announced Akira-class kit.

UPDATE: Round 2's blog reveals, due to a combination of problems the Akira has been pushed back, to an unknown distant time. Shame.

Playmates, wave the second

TrekMovie have revealed the contents of Playmates second wave of toys for the new movie, coming later this summer. They are:

In the "galaxy collection" of small scale figures. This wave includes McCoy and Chekov in Enterprise uniforms, Kirk and Sulu in their space-jump gear, Kirk in cadet and off-duty uniforms, Spock as an Academy instructor, Ayel, Sarek, and Keenser, plus the Drakoulias. Here are most of those:

In the mid-scale "warp collection" will feature a rather similar range: McCoy and Chekov in Enterprise uniforms, instructor Spock, and Kirk in space gear and cadet uniforms, plus the two Delta Vega animals, Drakoulias and Hengrauggi (the same names the novelization uses, and scaled down again, but might be good in comparison to the galaxy figures):

In the largest scale "command" series we get Scotty and Uhura in Enterprise uniforms, plus Nero, and additionally Toys'r'us exclusive Sulu and Pike in Enterprise uniforms.

Finally there's a role-play item, the "interactive utility belt", which generates missions you have to use the included communicator and phaser to complete (fun!)
