Looksie, some new clips from the new movie:

TrekMovie also have a little behind the scenes clip. And Collider have a video with J.J. Abrams talking about deleted scenes that might make it to the DVD release. And on top of all that the official website has been updated with some new dossiers, on Vulcan, Scotty Chekov, and Sulu.

New Online images

Kotaku have posted three new Star Trek Online screencaps, showing us a Starfleet ship, and what seems to be a Talarian warship!

There's also a planetside, image, see it on the original report, here.

TrekMovie have released a cover, some new details and new screencaps from the new movie tie-in game D-A-C. Here's the cover:

DST updatearama

Diamond Select Toys are keeping themselves busy with a plethora of new Star Trek stuff in works.

The Art Asylum blog has announced several items. To kick things off they are offering some more Toys'r'us exclusive variant figures: A dress uniform Kirk, a "The Cage" or "Where No Man Has Gone Before" Spock, and a standard TOS McCoy.

They are also reissuing Art Asylum's old TOS figures in two packs, so most of the crew will be available again.

And the long lost Salt Vampire is finally on the way, and will look like this:

TrekMovie.com meanwhile report there is going to be yet another Kirk and chair variant, this time based on "The Trouble with Tribbles" (shame DST' license doesn't cover TAS, they could do a "More Tribbles, More Troubles" version with a giant tribble in the chair).

Back on the Art Asylum blog, they have also released a packaged shot for the long awaited Enterprise-D model:

And the TOS science and medical tricorders:

Star Trek cereal

In the latest wave of Kellogg's' Star Trek promotions there is now not only cereal with Star Trek stuff all over the boxes, but a dedicated (limited edition) Star Trek cereal, which according to TrekMovie is a "sweetened oat ceral with marshmallows shaped like the Starfleet logo". TrekMovie also found that flickr user Berry Market has posted some pictures of the box.

I am most amused that this cereal is, according to the box, only available in theatres *smirk*

Sneaky new comic

A reported by TrekMovie and io9, the latest issue of a magazine called WIRED, which was guest edited by J.J. Abrams, features a new six-page Star Trek comic "When Worlds Collide", a biography of Spock leading up to the new film. It was written by the film's writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, with art by Paul Pope.

Both reports have excerpts from the comic. I find myself (looking on ebay for a way to get this in the UK) and very curious as to how this sort of publication works along side IDW have the TOS comics license.

Online update: Klingon attack on Gila IV

The Star Trek Online website has been updated with another of its side-steps to the Path to 2409 timeline; this time giving us an interview with former Starfleet officer David Steiner, who was present on the Gorn colony Gila IV when it was attacked by the Klingons (as mentioned in the last update to the timeline).

The update describes how Steinier retired from Starfleet following the Dominion War and made his new life a freighter pilot, only to get stuck on a planet just as a new war arrives.

Read the report, here.

Q-hoo

IDW's editor Chris Ryall, and artist Elena Casagrande have released the cover for a Q Alien Spotlight, to be released in August. As suggested in some of the earliest reports for the second series the issue is written by Scott and David Tipton, and we now know the art will be by Casagrande (who previously illustrated the brothers' Orion Alien Spotlight), the colours on the cover are by Ilaria Traversi.

Chris Ryall's post also included a version of the cover pre-colouring.

A whisper of Unspoken Truth

In an interview conducted by Unreality SF Margaret Wander Bonanno has given the first indications of what her forthcoming Saavik novel, Unspoken Truth, is about:

"It starts with the scene in The Voyage Home where Saavik and Amanda are watching the Bounty take off for Earth and the trial of the Enterprise Seven. Saavik is more or less at loose ends, a bit shell-shocked from recent events, and trying to decide what to do with the rest of her life. She signs up for what she hopes will be a quiet mission on a science vessel cataloguing plants on a distant world, and ends up fighting for her sanity and her life against forces from her past trying to lay claim to both. It’s a bit of a murder mystery, a bit of a spy novel, with a love affair tossed in for seasoning."

She also describes how she used Saavik's backstory as established in The Pandora Principle, including some flashbacks to that period. The interview also discusses her other Star Trek work and her writing in general, check it out, here.

Sneaky peak at Ships of the Line 2010, c.o. Doug Drexler

Doug Drexler has posted a photographic report of his visit to Pocket Books' offices on his (amazing) blog, and in doing so has given us a little sneaky peak at next years Ships of the Line calendar. We get a distant view of the cover, and one of the interior images, which seems to show Spacedock under construction:

Drexler also commented on some of the other artists involved in the calendar "There is a broader spectrum of medium as well, including another highly anticipated traditional style painting by Andy Probert. John Han, who uses old school physical models for his contribution. A couple of brilliant guys I scooped up from Internet fan sites… Hey Rob Wilde, Greg Stewart, and Steffen Weisener! You’re pros now baby! And two incredible pages from TOS remastered… Niel Wray and Max Gabl unleashed!"

Additionally in another of the photos he posted we can see a portion of his cover (rather more completed than the solicitation one posted earlier) for the next Vanguard novel, Precipice. Which it turns out had a working title of Flashpoint.

Drexler also commented that Margaret Clark has "had her hands full with tie in projects for the upcoming JJ Abrahms Star Trek motion picture." I wonder if there is already more in the works than just the novelization and audiobook...

Check out the Drex Files for more on his visit to Pocket Books and all sorts of over exciting behind the scenes Star Trek stuff (tis a great blog!).

Pocket Catalogue time

It's time for a new Pocket Books catalogue, this time giving us some new covers and blurbs for the end of year releases (all subject to change of course). The ''Titan'' blurb also gives us some new news on The Typhon Pact, it's going to be SIX parts! Blimey.

Enterprise: The Romulan War, by Michael A. Martin
The story behind the Earth-Romulan war continues: Now with nothing left to lose, the Romulan Star Empire is determined to stop the human menace from spreading across the galaxy—once and for all.

Captain Jonathan Archer may go down in Federation history a hero, but he considers himself a fa
ilure. Right under his nose the Romulans attacked and destroyed a helpless human cargo ship, the Kobayshi Maru, and there was nothing Archer could do to stop the loss of every member of the crew, and the ship itself. The captain knows that the Romulans are done testing the waters, and they have perfected a way of remotely controlling Coalition ships and using them as weapons against each other, thus succeeding in driving a wedge of suspicion between these new allies. The Romulans now are going to strike at what they see as the heart of their problem, Earth. Can the fragile Coalition of Planets survive an all-out war?
Voyager: Unworthy, by Kirsten Beyer
In the aftermath of Destiny, the second novel in the Voyager series that takes original characters—and all new ones—into the Star Trek universe.

The Borg, the greatest menace to humanity, were absorbed into the Caeliar gestalt, with one exception: Seven of Nine. Trapped in an existence neither drone nor human, Seven agrees that the mystery of the Caeliar’s disappearance must be solved. She joins the former captain of Voyager to see if they can rendezvous with the ships that Starfleet Command has sent into the Delta Quadrant. But these are not the friendly stars of the Federation, and out here the unknown and the unexpected cannot be dealt with standard Starfleet protocols.
Titan: Synthesis, by James Swallow
The sixth astonishing novel in the bestselling Star Trek: Titan series delivers another mind-bending adventure as the anticipation builds toward 2010’s six-part Star Trek novel event, The Typhon Pact.

Now a new father, Captain Riker leads the starship Titan toward contact with a civilization made up of artificial intelligences—sentient computers who have surrounded a vast gasgiant planet, serving as the first line of defense against an ominous threat that the crew can scarcely comprehend. The AIs’ long and turbulent history has given them deeply routed distrust of organics...leading to an unexpected act that radically transforms the dynamic between the ship and its crew.
Vanguard: Precipice, by David Mack
The fifth Vanguard novel raises the stakes for all those embroiled in the mystery of the Taurus Reach, with the disgraced Diego Reyes finding unexpected allies among the enemies he so recently fought against.

Diego Reyes, disgraced former commander of space station Vanguard, learns that his role in deciphering the truth about the Taurus Reach is not yet over. As friend and foe alike join forces in a separate peace against the threat of the resurgent Shedai—the godlike aliens who eons ago reigned over that part of the galaxy—a long-missing wild card in the complex events playing out in the Taurus Reach returns to change the game.TOS - Mirror Universe: The Sorrows of Empire, by David Mack
HBO’s Rome meets Star Trek in this riveting novel from the dark side of the Mirror Universe.

Intrigued by the concept of a federation that helps rather than oppresses its citizen, Spock becomes emperor by taking control of the Terran Empire through mass murder. The Vulcan can validate his actions by reasoning that the means justifies the ends, a galaxy rule by law not brutality. Emperor Spock puts into motion a plan that will bring down the Terran Empire. But in a world built on treachery and deception, can a Vulcan trust anyone, including the woman who says she loves him? And has he fallen prey to the human sin of hubris by miscalculating the harsher forces wielded by the Klingon and the Cardassians, who could enslave the Terran Empire forever?

New Archives books

Steve Roby over at Starfleet Library has been doing some Amazoning, and came across listing for some new books in IDW's omnibus series Star Trek Archives. As Steve points out, these like most of the Archives preceding them are largely material that has already been reprinted at some point.

Volume 5: Best of Kirk
This six-issue collection includes the fan-favorite "Trial of James T. Kirk" Star Trek written by New York Times best-selling author Peter David. As the Klingons and Nasguls pursue their vendetta against the captain, a deadly bounty hunter is eyeing the price they've placed on his head. But if the Kirk is fortunate enough to survive the encounter, will he survive the attentions of his own Federation, eagerly looking for a scapegoat to preserve universal peace?

Volume 6: Best of Alternate Universes
The treacherous but intriguing tales of Star Trek's Mirror Universe are presented in this collection of the 8-part Mirror Universe Saga! Witness the deception and desperation that unfolds as the Empire sets out to conquer another universe. It will take all the guile and cunning Kirk, Spock, and the crew of the Enterprise can muster if they hope to ward off the coming Empire invasion, and save themselves in the process!
Volume 7: Best of Klingons
In stories like "The Wormhole Connection," "The Only Good Klingon... ," "Errand of War," "Deadly Allies," "Maggie's World," and "Judgment Day," get a close look at the relationship between the Federation and Klingon Empire. These fierce, warring people present unique challenges to the Federation, and in these classic DC stories get a glimpse of what the future holds for Federation-Klingon relations.

New Online images

The Star Trek Online website has been updated with some new screencaps, such as this strange multi-ringed planet:

See two more, here.

new movie, new movie, new movie!

As an any good serial-trailer-watcher knows, "the wait is over", or nearly at least. Star Trek has now had it's world premier, and to go with it there's new movie stuff boiling up out of everywhere! Let us begin with, look, a new trailer:

And infinitely more exciting than fast cut trailer madness, there are also some clips of scenes from the film turning up. Such as this one (which I cant actually see because I'm not American): Link. This amusing introduction to Doctor McCoy: Link. And this bridge full of camera flare affair (which part from the weird lighting is also awesome - especially those bridge sound effects!): Link.

Elsewhere, the offical website has been updated, with the addition of the dossiers section, giving us some new images (and wallpapers) and background info on a few things. The panoramas section has also been updated, now showing off the bridge, which glows red at red alert!

Aaaand, look what some artists have been up to with the new Enterprise. Can anyone say chocolate starship?:

And would you believe it, there is still more. Fancy istunning ipeople with your iphone? Well now you can with the new (and free) iphaser app! Zappy linky zap.
